Arrive in Brazil with your pet, ready to start your new adventure

Brazil has clear entry requirements, but one missed detail, an out-of-date rabies vaccination or incomplete parasite treatment, can delay your pet's arrival or cause problems at customs. The paperwork is tight, and the timelines are strict.

Here's what you avoid when we handle your pet's journey:

  • Entry refusal or customs delays caused by incomplete or incorrectly timed documentation
  • The stress of coordinating vets, airlines, and Brazilian authorities alone whilst managing your own move
  • Arriving in Brazil to discover your pet can't clear customs due to an avoidable oversight

Let us take the complexity off your plate so you can focus on your new life.

Pet shipping to Brazil made simple

Moving pets to Brazil from the UK is one of the more manageable international relocations, but the details still need to be right. Brazil requires all pets to be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies, and treated for internal and external parasites before travel. There are no blood tests and no quarantine on arrival, but Brazil's vaccination rules and documentation windows still need to be handled carefully.

The key thing to know is that Brazil has a mandatory waiting 21 days period after your pets initial rabies vaccination before being able to travel.  If they need a booster, or have a valid vaccination, then they can travel straight away! We'll check your pet's vaccination history from the start and advise you on exactly what's needed.

Within 10 days of departure, an Official Veterinarian (OV) completes your pet's Export Health Certificate (EHC), confirming all entry requirements are met. With planning starting just a few weeks before departure in most cases, we'll guide you through every stage and ensure your pet arrives in Brazil ready to clear customs on day one.

Pet flights to Brazil: what you need to know

Planning
Flights & Airlines
Safety & Welfare
Documentation
When should I start planning?
If your pet already has a valid rabies vaccination, we can arrange travel in as little as five to seven days. If they need a first vaccination, a mandatory 21-day waiting period applies before travel. We recommend getting in touch as soon as your move is confirmed so we can check your pet's vaccination status and plan accordingly.
How much does it cost to move a pet to Brazil?
Costs are based on the size of your pet's travel crate, which is calculated from your pet's measurements. Smaller pets and cats are the most economical to transport. Brazil also applies customs fees on arrival, which we include as an option in your quote. Complete our quote form for a personalised breakdown.
Which airlines fly pets to Brazil?
We use LATAM and British Airways for direct flights to São Paulo (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro (RIO) from London Heathrow. For destinations such as Fortaleza, Natal, Recife, and Porto Alegre, we use TAP Airlines via a transit in Lisbon, with departures from Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester.
Will my pet be safe during the flight?
Yes. All pets travel as manifested cargo in a pressurised, heated, and ventilated hold, conditions that mirror the passenger cabin. Our IATA-compliant crates include absorbent bedding and secure water containers to keep your pet comfortable throughout the journey.
Does my pet need to quarantine on arrival in Brazil?
No. Quarantine is not required when travelling from the UK to Brazil. Your pet clears customs on arrival and can be reunited with you on the same day.
What is an Export Health Certificate and why does my pet need one?
An Export Health Certificate (EHC) is an official veterinary document completed by an Official Veterinarian (OV) confirming your pet meets Brazil's entry requirements. It must be completed within 10 days of departure and accompanies your pet on their journey. Our airport vets can complete this at check-in for your convenience.
Does Brazil accept three-year rabies vaccines?
Yes. Brazilian authorities do accept three-year rabies vaccines. There is no waiting period for a booster, but a first vaccination requires 21 days before your pet can fly. We'll check your pet's records and advise from the outset.
Can I take a snub-nosed pet to Brazil?
Yes, in many cases. We can transport brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breeds to Brazil, but travel is only available at certain times of year when temperatures at transit points are lower. Only a small proportion of snub-nosed pets are affected by BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airways Syndrome), and with the right preparation, most can travel safely. Contact us and we'll advise based on your specific breed.
Does my pet need a pet passport to travel to Brazil?
No. Since Brexit, UK-issued pet passports are no longer valid for travel outside the EU. For Brazil, the required document is an Export Health Certificate (EHC), completed by an Official Veterinarian within 10 days of departure. We include this as part of our full service.

Dog shipping to Brazil: essential information
Microchip requirements

All dogs must have an ISO-compliant 15-digit microchip implanted before any vaccinations or parasite treatments are recorded. Your dog's microchip number links all documentation and confirms their identity throughout the export process.

Rabies vaccination

Your dog must have a valid rabies vaccination, administered within one year before travel. If it's their first rabies vaccine, they must wait 21 days before flying. Brazil does not accept three-year rabies vaccines, so even dogs with a current vaccination may need a booster before departure. There is no waiting period for a booster.

Parasite treatment

Within 14 days of departure, your dog must receive treatments for both internal and external parasites. The active ingredients and issue date must be recorded on the Export Health Certificate as evidence your pet is free from infectious or parasitic diseases at the time of travel. We advise completing this alongside the EHC appointment to keep things efficient.

Export Health Certificate (EHC)

Within 10 days of departure, an Official Veterinarian completes your dog's Export Health Certificate, confirming all entry requirements have been met. This document travels with your dog and allows them to enter Brazil without delays at customs. Our airport vets can complete this at check-in.

Vaccinations

The rabies vaccine is mandatory. We also strongly recommend protecting your dog against:

  • Leptospirosis
  • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
  • Bordetella bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough)

These vaccinations are required if your dog boards with us before departure.

Quarantine

No quarantine is required on arrival in Brazil from the UK. Your dog clears customs on arrival day.

Customs fees

Brazil applies customs fees upon your dog's arrival. These vary and can be included as an option in your quote. We'll advise on the likely costs when we provide your personalised breakdown.

Flight arrangements

Dogs travel as manifested cargo in a pressurised, heated, and ventilated hold. We select the best airline and route based on your dog's breed, size, and destination city. Direct flights serve São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Connecting flights via Lisbon serve additional Brazilian cities including Fortaleza, Recife, and Porto Alegre.

Banned breeds

Brazil prohibits the import of:

  • American Pit Bull Terriers
  • Pit Bull crossbreeds

We're unable to transport these breeds to Brazil due to government restrictions.

Dog flights to the Brazil: safe, direct, and carefully planned

Every dog's flight is arranged with their safety and comfort as the priority. We select airlines with proven animal handling records and plan routes that minimise travel time and stress.

For dogs flying from the UK to Brazil, British Airways and LATAM offer direct services from London Heathrow and Gatwick to both Rio de Janeiro (RIO) and Sao Paulo (GRU)

TAP flights, via Lisbon, open up more destinations such as Brasilia, Fortaleza, Natal, Recife and Porto Alegre.

Whether you're making a permanent move or joining family on the island, dog relocation to Brazil follows a clear, well-established process and we'll guide you through every stage and ensure a smooth journey from the UK to your new home.

No. Unlike some destinations, Brazil does not require blood tests for cats travelling from the UK. The rabies vaccination and Export Health Certificate are the key requirements.

Does Brazil accept three-year rabies vaccines for cats?

Yes. Brazilian authorities only require a valid rabies vaccination. However, if it is an initial vaccination you must 21 days before being able to travel. There is no waiting period for a booster.

How much does it cost to fly a cat to Brazil?

Cats are generally the most economical pet to transport to Brazil due to their smaller crate size. Customs fees on arrival are also applicable. Complete our quote form for a personalised cost breakdown.

What vaccinations does my cat need?

The rabies vaccine is mandatory. We also strongly recommend the FVRCP vaccination, and it is required if your cat boards with us before departure.

What is the Export Health Certificate and when does it need to be done?

Pet export FAQ's

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get regarding our international pet transport service.

If you have any more, please get in touch and we'll aim to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Where on the aircraft does my pet travel?

In general, all pets must travel as 'manifested cargo'.  This means that they travel in a compartment which is below the passenger cabin. This is kept pressurised, heated and ventilated, just like the passenger cabins. It is also kept dark, which encourages pets to sleep through the flight.

Will my pet be safe and comfortable?

All pets have to travel in containers which are compliant with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animal Regulations and with specific airline guidelines. These are all designed to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet during their travel. They must always have enough space in their travel crate to stand up, lie down and turn around easily.

We can provide standard or custom-made air kennels which meet the IATA guidelines and include absorbent bedding and food and water pots. We ensure the container is secure and isn't too big (which can make your pet feel insecure), or too small. We usually like to deliver your container at least a month before your pet's flight so they can get used to it well before they travel.

How do you calculate the costs?

Airline shipping is calculated on the volume of the  travel crate. We advise constructing a bespoke IATA compliant wooden crate which is based of measurements of your pet - which can help minimise costs. Therefore, each quote is entirely unique and based on this volume and the route you are flying - for a full quote it is best to fill in our online quote form and we will get back to you within 24 hours with our estimate.

Can I use my own travel crate?

We will always try to use an existing travel crate, providing it is IATA compliant. To be certain that your own crate is suitable we would need to know what size it is, what it is made of (plastic or wood) the internal dimensions and some specific measurements from your pet.

What documents do I need?

Each country has different requirements when it comes to documents. Some require import permits to be applied for in advance - others don't. Almost all countries require some form of export documentation, whether an official DEFRA health certificate or an Animal Health Certificate, with entry criteria that must be met.  This could be blood tests or vaccinations. Rabies vaccinations are a requirement for most countries. We can advise on each basis depending on where you are going too.

Can I fly out of my local airport?

Most flights will leave from the main international airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh etc).  Ultimately, the departure Airport will be determined by your destination as not all airlines serve all routes - but we will always try and base the quote on the closest airport that we can fly from, minimising overall flight times.

Can my pet fly on the same flight as me?

If you let us know which flight/airline you are planning to use and the date you plan to travel, we can make every effort to book cargo space on the same flight. This does depend on the airline having space and, for some flights, the time of arrival at transit points along the way. Additionally, in some countries animals are only permitted to arrive at certain airports.

Can I visit my pet during the flight?

Unfortunately no. Neither passengers nor crew have access to the cargo hold during flight.

Will my pet receive food and water?

Your pet will not be fed during the flight and we advise that you only give a light meal in the morning of travel if it's on a night flight. If your animal will be flying in the day, we advise it should be fed the night before. Your pet's air kennel will be fitted with a water container which will be filled before departure. We would also suggest that you exercise your pet as near to the flight time as possible.

What if I have to postpone my flight at the last minute?

We know that travel problems do arise. Maybe your own plans have changed, or your pet is unable to travel at the original time. Don't worry, as we can change the flight and get your pet back on track very quickly and, usually, only a small admin charge will be made to cover the amended paperwork and permits
