Pet shipping to Dubai made simple

Pet travel to Dubai requires careful coordination, but the process is manageable with the right expertise. The United Arab Emirates requires all cats and dogs to hold a valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before departure, along with additional core vaccinations depending on species.

Once vaccinations are in order, we apply for your pet's import permit through the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). This is typically returned within 24 hours. No lab test or blood test is required for pets travelling from the UK, which means the timeline for personal import of pet animals to the UAE is shorter than many destinations. The UAE permits a maximum of two pets per person per year. This can be two dogs, two cats, or one of each.

Within 14 days of departure, your pet receives internal and external parasite treatments. Within 24 hours of travel, an official veterinarian completes the export health certificate. Unlike a pet passport, which is used for travel within Europe, the UAE requires its own specific import documentation.

With preparation starting just 2–3 months before departure, the timeline is far shorter than many destinations. Whether you're moving with one pet, two pets, or more we'll guide you through every stage and ensure a smooth journey from the UK to your new home.

Pet Flights to Dubai: what you need to know

Planning
Flights & Airlines
Safety & Welfare
Documentation
When should I start planning?
We recommend starting 2–3 months before your intended travel date. If your pet's vaccinations are already up to date, pet travel to Dubai can be arranged in as little as one to two weeks. If a rabies vaccination is needed, there's a mandatory 21-day wait before your pet can fly.
How much does it cost to fly a pet to Dubai?
Costs vary based on your pet's size, the crate required, your departure airport, and the airline route. Additional costs include the import permit, veterinary inspections, and customs fees at the entry port on arrival. Complete our quote form for a personalised breakdown.
Which airlines fly pets to the UAE?
We use British Airways and Emirates for direct flights from the UK to Dubai. For Abu Dhabi, Etihad offers daily departures. We can also arrange transit flights via Qatar Airways, KLM, or Lufthansa for more economical options. Departures are available from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Glasgow.
Will my pet be safe during the flight?
Yes. All pets travel as manifest cargo in a pressurised, heated, and ventilated cargo hold that mirrors conditions in the passenger cabin. Live animals are transported in IATA-compliant crates with absorbent bedding and secure food and water containers. The hold is kept dark, which encourages pets to sleep through the flight.
Does my pet need to quarantine in the UAE?
No. There is no quarantine requirement for pets entering the United Arab Emirates from the UK. Once your pet clears customs at Dubai International Airport or Abu Dhabi Airport, they're free to go home with you.
What documentation does my pet need?
Your pet will need the following documents: an import permit issued by MOCCAE, an export health certificate (sometimes called a veterinary health certificate or international health certificate) completed by an official veterinarian within 24 hours of departure, proof of a valid rabies vaccination, a vaccination document showing all required core vaccinations, and records of parasite treatments. A pet passport is not accepted for entry to the UAE. We prepare all documentation so your pet meets every requirement.
Can I travel with two pets at the same time?
Yes. The UAE permits a maximum of two pets per person per year. This can be two dogs, two cats, or one cat and one dog. Each pet requires their own travel crate, import permit, and export health certificate. We coordinate the logistics so all your pet animals travel together on the same flight.
Can my pet fly on the same flight as me?
If you provide your flight details and travel date, we'll make every effort to book cargo space on the same flight. Pets travel as manifest cargo rather than as checked baggage or in cabin. Availability depends on the airline's cargo schedule and your pet meeting all import requirements on your chosen date.
Can I take a snub-nosed pet to the UAE?
Yes. With proper preparation and careful timing, we can transport snub-nosed breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, Persians, and Exotic Shorthairs safely to Dubai. Travel may need to be scheduled during cooler months depending on temperatures at transit points.
Do I need a transit permit if my pet has a layover?
If your pet's flight routes through a third country, a prior transit permit or transit consignment approval may be required depending on the stopover location. We handle this as part of our service, ensuring your pet's journey complies with the rules of both the exporting country and any transit countries.

End-to-end permit management

Unlike many international destinations, the UAE does not require quarantine for dogs arriving from the UK. After customs clearance at Dubai International Airport or Abu Dhabi Airport, your dog is delivered straight to you.
Dog Shipping to Dubai: essential information
Microchip requirements

All dogs must have an ISO compliant 15-digit microchip implanted before any vaccinations. This fixed microchip and its unique microchip number links all documentation and ensures your dog is correctly identified throughout the import process.

Rabies vaccination

Your dog must hold a valid rabies vaccination administered at least 21 days before departure. If this is a booster and your dog's vaccination record is continuous, there is no waiting period. The rabies vaccine must have been given no more than 12 months prior to travel.

Core vaccinations for dogs

In addition to the rabies vaccination, dogs entering the UAE must be vaccinated against:

  • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
  • Leptospirosis
Blood tests and lab tests

Good news for dog owners: no blood tests, lab tests, or titer tests are required for dogs travelling from the UK to the UAE. This significantly shortens the preparation timeline compared to destinations like Australia.

Import permit application

Once your dog's vaccinations are confirmed and correctly recorded, we apply for the import permit through the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). Approval is typically returned within 24 hours. The permit confirms that your dog meets the UAE's import requirements.

Parasite treatment

Within 14 days of departure, your dog must receive treatments for internal and external parasites as specified by the UAE's import conditions. External parasite treatments and internal treatments must both be administered and recorded on the export health certificate. This can also be completed at the time the Export Health Certificate is completed, to avoid extra trips to the vet.

Export health certificate

Within 24 hours of departure, an official veterinarian completes your dog's export health certificate, confirming all entry requirements are met. This veterinary health certificate is the final piece of documentation and must accompany your dog on their journey. We include the option for our airport vets to complete this at check-in for your convenience.

Flight arrangements

Dogs travel as manifest cargo in a pressurised, heated, and ventilated cargo hold. We select airlines with excellent live animals handling, including British Airways and Emirates for direct flights to Dubai, and Etihad for Abu Dhabi. Flight time from the UK is approximately 7 hours on direct routes.

Customs clearance and delivery

Once your dog lands at the entry port, customs clearance at Dubai International Airport typically takes around 4 hours. Our trusted partner on the ground manages the process and delivers your dog to you, usually within 6 hours of landing. Any customs fees are payable at the owner's expense on arrival.

Banned dog breeds

The UAE prohibits the import of the following dog breeds:

  • Bull Terriers
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Mastiff breeds (including Brazilian Mastiff and Argentinian Mastiff)
  • Canario Presa (Perro de Presa Canario)
  • American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier
  • American Bully
  • Wolf Dog Hybrids
Can I move two dogs to Dubai?

Yes. We regularly transport two dogs on the same flight. Each dog requires their own IATA-compliant crate, individual import permit, and export health certificate. We coordinate the full process so both dogs travel together.

Dog relocation to Dubai FAQs

Costs depend on your dog's size, the crate required, your departure airport, and the route. Additional costs include the import permit, veterinary inspections, and customs fees. Request a quote for an accurate, personalised breakdown.

Does my dog need a pet passport for Dubai?

No. A pet passport is not accepted for travel to the UAE. Your dog needs a MOCCAE import permit and an export health certificate instead. We handle all the required documentation.

Does my dog need to quarantine in Dubai?

No. There is no quarantine requirement for dogs entering the UAE from the UK. Your dog is free to go home with you once customs clearance is complete.

How long is the flight from the UK to Dubai?

What documentation does my dog need?

Pet export FAQ's

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get regarding our international pet transport service.

If you have any more, please get in touch and we'll aim to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Where on the aircraft does my pet travel?

In general, all pets must travel as 'manifested cargo'.  This means that they travel in a compartment which is below the passenger cabin. This is kept pressurised, heated and ventilated, just like the passenger cabins. It is also kept dark, which encourages pets to sleep through the flight.

Will my pet be safe and comfortable?

All pets have to travel in containers which are compliant with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animal Regulations and with specific airline guidelines. These are all designed to ensure the safety and comfort of your pet during their travel. They must always have enough space in their travel crate to stand up, lie down and turn around easily.

We can provide standard or custom-made air kennels which meet the IATA guidelines and include absorbent bedding and food and water pots. We ensure the container is secure and isn't too big (which can make your pet feel insecure), or too small. We usually like to deliver your container at least a month before your pet's flight so they can get used to it well before they travel.

How do you calculate the costs?

Airline shipping is calculated on the volume of the  travel crate. We advise constructing a bespoke IATA compliant wooden crate which is based of measurements of your pet - which can help minimise costs. Therefore, each quote is entirely unique and based on this volume and the route you are flying - for a full quote it is best to fill in our online quote form and we will get back to you within 24 hours with our estimate.

Can I use my own travel crate?

We will always try to use an existing travel crate, providing it is IATA compliant. To be certain that your own crate is suitable we would need to know what size it is, what it is made of (plastic or wood) the internal dimensions and some specific measurements from your pet.

What documents do I need?

Each country has different requirements when it comes to documents. Some require import permits to be applied for in advance - others don't. Almost all countries require some form of export documentation, whether an official DEFRA health certificate or an Animal Health Certificate, with entry criteria that must be met.  This could be blood tests or vaccinations. Rabies vaccinations are a requirement for most countries. We can advise on each basis depending on where you are going too.

Can I fly out of my local airport?

Most flights will leave from the main international airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh etc).  Ultimately, the departure Airport will be determined by your destination as not all airlines serve all routes - but we will always try and base the quote on the closest airport that we can fly from, minimising overall flight times.

Can my pet fly on the same flight as me?

If you let us know which flight/airline you are planning to use and the date you plan to travel, we can make every effort to book cargo space on the same flight. This does depend on the airline having space and, for some flights, the time of arrival at transit points along the way. Additionally, in some countries animals are only permitted to arrive at certain airports.

Can I visit my pet during the flight?

Unfortunately no. Neither passengers nor crew have access to the cargo hold during flight.

Will my pet receive food and water?

Your pet will not be fed during the flight and we advise that you only give a light meal in the morning of travel if it's on a night flight. If your animal will be flying in the day, we advise it should be fed the night before. Your pet's air kennel will be fitted with a water container which will be filled before departure. We would also suggest that you exercise your pet as near to the flight time as possible.

What if I have to postpone my flight at the last minute?

We know that travel problems do arise. Maybe your own plans have changed, or your pet is unable to travel at the original time. Don't worry, as we can change the flight and get your pet back on track very quickly and, usually, only a small admin charge will be made to cover the amended paperwork and permits
